Treatment begins with a complete diagnostic evaluation.

What is dual-diagnosis?
There are many instances when those who are diagnosed with a substance use disorder (SUD) also suffer from a co-occurring mental health or behavioral disorder. This is known as dual diagnosis. Those who experience a mental health condition may turn to alcohol or other drugs as a form of self-medication. However, research shows that alcohol and other drugs worsen the symptoms of mental illness.*Information from National Alliance on Mental Illness (nami.org).
